Tómas Farthing will join his Corinthians clubmate Max Flynn in the Connacht Rugby academy having signed an academy contract.
We sat down with the scrum half from An Spidéal to talk about his sporting career to date.
"I started playing rugby when I was four or five"
"I lived in Dublin so would have started with Monkstown and then moved to Old Belvedere after a couple of years"
"And then I went to Corinthians which is where I am now"
"My dad who is Australian got me into rugby"
"He was heavily involved in rugby when he was growing up"
"I would have watched a lot of super rugby with him and gone to any inetrnational matches with Ireland and the Wallabies"
It was 2015 when the Farthing family moved to Galway. Growing up in Dublin, Tómas made regular trips out west with his mother coming from the county.
"My mom is from Galway and lived most of her life here in Galway"
"As a family in 2015 we decided to make the move west for a year but because we loved it so much we couldn't leave so thankfully we have been here ever since"
He made his senior debut for Corinthians this season, a side that has gone on to gain promotion from Division 2B in the AIL.
"It is obvisouly a big jump playing underage and then going into AIL"
"I wouldn't be the biggest so probably struggled a bit at the start but as the season went on I adapted and got better"
"It was great for the team to get promotion, hopefully we can have a good season next in Division 2A"
As well as being a talented rugby player, Tómas was named the 2022 Minor Footballer having played a key role for Galway in their success of winning the All-Ireland Minor title that year.
"That was an unbelieveable year for me and the team"
"It was a poor start as we lost three games in the Connacht Championship"
"We lost the Connacht Final to Mayo but ended up playing them again in the All-Ireland Final at Dr.Hyde Park and won"
In 2023 Tómas was voted Connacht Rugby U18s Player of the Year. This season he was involved with the Irish U19s squad.
